Final Greetings and Wishes (3 John 1:13-14)

FINAL GREETINGS AND WISHES (3 JOHN 1:13-14): Apostle John concludes his letter by writing that he had much to write to Gaius but he would rather not write with pen and ink and he hopes to see him soon so that they would talk face to face. Apostle John is much person-oriented, which should be for every disciple of Christ and he would have had many things to convey to Gaius personal as well ministerial. Certain things could be better correlated by direct expression and discussion rather than by a one-way communication which could be misinterpreted at times. So though Apostle John had many things to write to Gaius, still he thinks that he would rather not merely do it with the pen and ink which could not convey the actual expression at times. Apostle John also could have had a reason of hope to see Gaius in person very soon and talk directly by comforting, encouraging and admonishing in a better possible way. Apostle John writes the final greetings that peace is to Gaius and the f...

Receiving Good Report From Everyone (3 John 1:11-12)

RECEIVING GOOD REPORT FROM EVERYONE (3 JOHN 1:11-12): After writing about Diotrephes who was doing inappropriate things, Apostle John writes not to imitate evil but imitate good. Apostle John addresses the recipient, Gaius as beloved which is a usual way of John’s calling of his spiritual children, which shows his feelings of closeness, care, and concern in heart. Apostle John quoted a negative example and then immediately after that he advised the believing leader that he should not imitate things that are not Godly, instead he advises the believing leader to imitate what is Godly, which is absolutely good because a person who is genuinely and truly from God could not do something evil and he would surely try to do good in everything and towards everyone though it may cost even the life, on the earth. The person who does something evil could not be from God neither known Him as the way he ought to know Him. Apostle John doesn’t just end by telling the believing leader to do g...

Recognition of Authority of Elders (3 John 1:9-10)

RECOGNITION OF AUTHORITY OF ELDERS (3 JOHN 1:9-10): After writing about supporting the people who are witnesses, Apostle John writes that he had written something to the church, but Diotrephes, who likes to put himself first, does not acknowledge their authority. Apostle John had expressed certain things to the church in some way, but Diotrephes who would have been in some designation in the Church wants to be prioritized and given importance, by putting himself first in everything that it should make him feel proud. Diotrephes is too much self-oriented that he wants himself to be acknowledged and praised, so he doesn’t even honor and give the appropriate credit to the elders and accept their power and guidance which are valuable treasures. Apostle John who is very loving, caring, and patient in accordance with the truth, condemns the selfish attitude and nature of Diotrephes which is inappropriate for a believer. So Apostle John writes that if he comes he would bring up what ...

Witnessing in Love and Supporting (3 John 1:5-8)

WITNESSING IN LOVE AND SUPPORTING (3 JOHN 1:5-8): Apostle John addresses the recipient as beloved which shows his closeness in heart to Gaius and love he has on him. Apostle John writes that it is a faithful thing that Gaius do in all his efforts for the brothers who are the strangers who testified to his love before the church. Gaius has a good testimony among the other believers and leaders and Apostle John continues saying how he is careful and considerate in putting all the genuine efforts for the believing brothers who are not belonging to his own culture or region or relation but totally far with many differences, for his love, are truthful and sincere. The ministers or believers who had been received by Gaius gave a good report about him saying about the love of Gaius not only towards them but also for the crew he had been involved and taking care. Apostle John not only encourages them by writing about the things he knew about Gaius and things he heard about Gaius but a...

Greetings and Expression of Joy (3 John 1:1-4)

III JOHN GREETINGS AND EXPRESSION OF JOY (3 JOHN 1:1-4):  Apostle John starts the letter by writing, elder to the beloved Gaius, whom he loves in the truth. Apostle John addresses himself as the elder which symbolizes that He is in the leading position among the believers and of old age, while he wrote the letter. The letter has been addressed to Gaius who would have been a close associate for Apostle John, and he would have taught Gaius  so many things. Gaius would be a genuine follower abiding in the truths of God and Apostle John acknowledged that he loves him in truth. Gaius is a common name among Greek people. Even Paul acknowledges Gaius in Romans 16:23 and 1Cor 1: 14. One of the Gaius was Paul’s companion, a Macedonian (Act 19: 29). One of the Gaius, of Derbe, accompanied Paul to Syria (Act 20:4). There is a probability that the recipient Gaius, of Apostle John could be one of them but there is a greater reason that the Gaius mentioned by Apostle John could h...

Final Wish and Note (2 John 1:12-13)

FINAL WISH AND NOTE (2 JOHN 1:12-13): Apostle John concludes his second epistle with final wishes. He writes that though he has much to write to them, he would rather not use paper and ink, instead, he hopes to go to the recipients and talk face to face, so that their joy may be complete. The Apostle John has a closer and Godly relationship with the recipients who would be a believing lady and her children or the church as a whole. Apostle John has so many things to write unto them which could be for their spiritual growth or social awareness in order to please God through their life. Still, he was careful to write to them everything that is related to the greatest commandment of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which is a necessity for every believer. Also, writing so many things may not be felt appropriate towards the recipients by the author, instead, the author thinks that talking to them directly would be more effective and lively. Also, the relationships are valuable and c...

Remaining True to the Teaching of Messiah (2 John 1: 7-11)

REMAINING TRUE TO THE TEACHING OF MESSIAH (2 JOHN 1: 7-11): Apostle John continues to write about abiding in the teachings of Christ and avoiding the teachings that contradict the teachings of Christ. The author writes about it because many deceivers had gone out in the world, those who do not confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh and such a one is the deceiver and the antichrist. There were many false teachings and deceptions existent even in the first century, immediately after the life and ascension of Lord Jesus Christ. The false teachers and deceivers had not only present in the arena of Apostle John but they were spread all over the world. Apostle John conveys an identity of deceivers cautioning the believers that they do not proclaim and assure the redemption, reconciliation, and restoration of mankind through the arrival of Jesus Christ in flesh as man, who is all divine. Also, the deceivers deny the arrival of Jesus Christ as a righteous judge. The deceivers a...
