Abiding in the Son and Father (1 John 2: 22-27)
ABIDING IN THE SON AND
FATHER (1 JOHN 2: 22-27):
After writing about the
Antichrists and truth, Apostle John explains who is an antichrist and about
abiding in the Son and the Father. Apostle John writes that he who denies that
Jesus is the Christ is the liar, which is the antichrist who denies the Father
and the Son. Antichrist denies the divine nature of Jesus Christ through any
means, such as not agreeing with the purpose or teaching of Jesus. Because they
had not agreed to the teachings of Jesus, they had even denied the prophecies
from God and thereby the true God. Apostle John further writes that no one who
denies the Son has the Father and whoever confesses the Son has Father also. A
person who denies Jesus Christ as the Messiah and Son of God could not have the
Father God truly, as Jesus and Father Commune and coexist with one another. The
person who confesses the Son has the Father God also as they knew the eternal
purpose of God.
The believers would have
surely heard about many things about God and Jesus Christ from the Scriptures.
So Apostle John reminds them that those things that they heard from the
beginning shall abide in them. If what they heard abides in them, then they too
will abide in the Son and in the Father. The truth will never change, and the
people who laid the foundations in it by reaffirming it often will never deviate. When the doctrine and understanding of God are rightly caught and
inherited, a person abides in Son and the Father, living his life for God and
not for anything or anyone else. Because the person is clear about the purpose of
the short life on the earth by being aware of the promise that God had made with
every believer, which is eternal life.
Apostle John once again
reminds the believers that he write those things to them to help them know
those people who are trying to deceive them. When a person is strengthened in
the true teachings, there is no one who could deceive and the person could
easily identify the deceiver. But those who are not strong in the teachings should be always cautious and aware of the people who may deceive. Apostle John
continues to tell the believers that the anointing that they received from God
abides in them and they have no need for anyone to teach them. But as the
anointing of the Holy Spirit teaches them about everything which is true without any lie, just as
it was taught to them from the beginning, they ought to abide in God. Every
true believer with complete Faith, irrespective of knowledge about many things has received the
Spirit of God who strengthens and guides in the truth by teaching them what
they need personally and generally. But it’s undeniably true that abiding in
God as well as heeding to the Holy Spirit helps us to love one another and learn
from one another.
