Testimony and Fellowship (1 John 1:1-4)
TESTIMONY AND FELLOWSHIP
(1 JOHN 1:1-4):
Apostle John starts his
letter by reminding the recipients about certain things. He says about the things
that was in the beginning which they have heard, seen with their eyes and
looked upon, touched with their hands, which is concerning the Word of life.
Apostle John addresses Jesus as the Word of life and says that He was from the
beginning of everything which the believers have already heard. Also, most of
the believers have seen and looked upon the life of Jesus, touching him with
their hands. Apostle John continues saying that life was made manifest and
they had seen it. In the beginning of creation, Jesus was not explicitly
mentioned but He was present as Word. When Jesus came to the world, life was
made manifest and people had seen it and testified to it. Jesus came in flesh
to proclaim to the believers, the eternal life which was with the Father God
and was made manifest to all the believers through the form of Jesus as wholly
divine and wholly human. God’s eternal purpose of redemption is revealed through
the personification of Jesus which could not be denied by anyone in the world.
Apostle John says that all
the things concerning Jesus which He and the apostles along with him had seen
and heard, they also proclaim to the believers so that they too may have
fellowship with the apostles because their fellowship indeed is with the Father
and with the Son Jesus Christ. Jesus was the mediator between men and God, thereby having a strong foundation about the truths concerning Jesus will not only
help the believers to reconcile with God but also between themselves. Apostle
John says that he is writing those things concerning Jesus and about
fellowship, so that their joy may be complete. When the believers know more
about God and enjoy bondage with Him as well as the people, it would bring the greatest and complete joy.
Stimulations for
Self-Reflection:
1. What was from the
beginning and what John says about it?
2. Who is mentioned as Word
of life? Why?
3. How the things that were
from beginning heard and seen?
4. What had happened to Word
of Life?
5. What was proclaimed by
Word of Life? Who manifested it?
6. Why Jesus was proclaimed?
7. With whom John and
apostles had fellowship?
8. How things concerning Word
of life and fellowship are necessary to us?
9. How we could have a
complete Joy?
